BLACK FRIDAY

RoR Equine Ambassador

Welcome
Black Friday

We’re so excited to introduce our 2026 Retraining of Racehorses Equine Ambassador – Black Friday

Known as Starsky at home, Black Friday enjoyed an impressive racing career, winning seven times, including four victories at Ayr Racecourse.

Since retiring from racing in November 2024, Black Friday has gone from strength to strength. He has already enjoyed success in the show ring, qualifying for the Royal Highland Show 2026, while also learning to jump, teaching children to ride, and enjoying life playing in the field with his sheep and his fellow ex-racehorse friend.

A note from owner Abigail “I’m delighted to be a ROR Horses for Courses Ambassador at Ayr Racecourse. My horse Black Friday is the perfect example of the successful afterlife of a former racehorse, showcasing just how versatile and adaptable Thoroughbreds can be beyond the track. His transition into a new career highlights the incredible potential these horses have in a variety of disciplines. I’m very excited to be working with both Ayr Racecourse and Retraining of Racehorses (ROR) to help promote the opportunities available to former racehorses and to celebrate their second careers.”

Check back here for updates on Black Friday and details on when you can meet him.

Next Up…

Meet Black Friday up close at The Family Sunday Raceday on Sunday 5th July for Meet & Greet Sessions, Interactive Racing Talks, A Black Friday Colouring Competition and A Black Friday Quiz, a great way to learn more about Retraining of Racehorses and our Ambassador.

What Black Friday Has Been Up To In April

It’s been a busy April for our wonderful RoR Horses for Courses Ambassador, Black Friday.

April saw the start of Black Friday’s showing season, kicking things off at the Ian Stark Equestrian Centre for the RoR Show. Black Friday had a fantastic day, winning the Tattersalls Amateur Ridden Class and securing his qualification for the finals at both at The Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby Meeting in June and the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Special Final at Aintree in August. He also went on to finish 3rd in the Tattersalls Ridden Scottish Open Series in which he had already qualified for the final to be held at The Royal Highland Show in June.

Since then, Black Friday has settled into his summer routine and is now enjoying 24/7 turnout at grass — which definitely means he’s getting fatter by the minute!

We’re looking forward to a very exciting few months ahead.
