Witch Hunter tops the weights for 2024 Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup 

Richard Hannon’s Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Witch Hunter has been allocated to-weight of 9-12 for this season’s £180,000 Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup to be run on Saturday September 21.

The 5 year-old is rated 2lbs clear of Michael Dods’ Commanche Falls with the same trainer’s Northern Express a pound further back on 9-9, alongside last year’s neck runner-up Ramazan, trained by Richard Fahey.

Julie Camacho’s 2023 winner Significantly has been allocated 9-6 after carrying 9-2 to win under Joe Fanning 12 months ago while last year’s 4th home Albasheer (Archie Watson) will be asked to shoulder 9-5.

The Ger Lyons trained Curragh Listed race winner My Mate Alfie is the top-weighted 3 year-old with 9-8 with the top Scottish-trained horse in the handicap being Jim Goldie’s prolific winner Jordan Electrics on 9-4.

The top 25 declared on September 19 will run for Gold with the next 25 eligible to run in the Silver Cup (Saturday) and the next 25 offered a run in the Bronze Cup which is run on Friday September 20.
