UNITE to sponsor at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday June 24
Unite the Union, commonly known as Unite, is to sponsor the Summer Raceday card at Ayr on Saturday June 24.
The day’s racing highlight is a prestigious Listed race for fillies and mares with the whole occasion rounded off by an appearance from superstar DJ Marvin Humes. The racing focus on a hugely exciting card will be the valuable Land O’Burns Stakes over Ayr’s “flying five”, a prestigious 5 furlongs race for sprinting fillies won last year by the Karl Burke trained Gilded under jockey Tom Eaves.
Unite Scottish Secretary Pat Rafferty said:
“Unite the Union is delighted to sponsor a major showcase event at Ayr Racecourse in June. It’s an occasion for family and friends to take time out to enjoy a great day’s horse-racing.
“It’s vital we also show respect to the hundreds of workers who will be in attendance, making sure everyone has a great day out at Ayr.”
The Land O’Burns Stakes was won in 2016 by subsequent Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner Marsha, trained by Sir Mark Prescott and ridden by Paul Mulrennan. That filly trained on at 4 years old to win the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York and Sir Mark was back in France last October to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with Alpinista. The most successful trainer in the Listed sprint has been Wantage based Henry Candy who has sent 3 fillies north to win in 2004, 2017 and 2019.
Unite Scotland Summer Raceday will have a human headliner in the shape of Capital FM presenter Marvin Hume and there will, in addition, be a FREE competition for one racegoer to win a fantastic holiday for TWO to Barbados, courtesy of Stewart Travel and Visit Barbados. Ayr’s 2023 Flat season gets underway on Thursday May 4 with our Spring Raceday and there are 15 more meetings before the Ayr Gold Cup Festival which runs from Thursday September 21 to Gold Cup day itself on Saturday September 23.
