Ayr Racecourse Racing Club mare Penelope’s Sister ran on strongly to take 5th place at Hamilton’s Sky Bet Series card on Sunday after heavy weekend rain left conditions much softer than ideal for our recent winner at Ayr.

Penny was already a course winner at Hamilton last summer but Sunday’s ground was the softest she’d ever encountered and she became outpaced early before staying on well to come from last position turning in (8th) to finish 5th, beaten seven and three quarter lengths.

Apprentice Lauren Young gave the 5 year-old every chance of finishing in the best possible placing despite conditions being against her and it will be interesting to see of the handicapper takes a lenient view of the run when the next ratings are published this week.

Lauren was also interviewed live on ITV Racing by presenter Luke Harvey in the Ayr colours and there was plenty in the subsequent performance by our mare to suggest there will be further successful days to come.
