Start off a weekend of fantastic racing with our March Raceday.
It’s the first day of our final meeting before the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival and there are sure to be competitive fields as trainers sort out their teams for some valuable April targets.
The Albert Bartlett Series qualifier at Ayr on Friday March 6 takes on an extra significance this year after one of last year’s runners went on to land the 100,000 Euros Final at the Punchestown Festival in Ireland the following month.
That horse was the Mike Smith trained Buy Some Time which finished second in the Ayr qualifier behind Donald Whillans’ Both Barrels and was then sent to Ireland to contest (and WIN) the Final under Galston trainer Mike’s conditional jockey son Ben.
That success at Ireland’s biggest racing festival of the season gave father and son their biggest career-wins by a long way and Buy Some Time’s success will no doubt have many more owners and trainers looking to become eligible for the final from this year’s Ayr qualifier.
