Racing Updates
AYR RACING CLUB MARES SET TO RAID HAMILTON PARK
Members of the newly founded Ayr Racecourse Racing Club could be having a day out at Hamilton Park on Sunday with both of the clubs horses entered for races on the latest Sky Bet Series card this Sunday, June 15.
Jim Goldie has been delighted with the way the two horses have come out of their latest races here at Ayr and there’s a chance that both could race for some valuable prize-money this weekend.
PENELOPE’S SISTER gave our members their first winner with her fantastic success at Ayr last time and the 5 year-old has been given an entry in the £35,000 Fillies’ Handicap at 5.45.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the likely runners for this race as the week goes on as she’s currently out of the handicap due to the top-weight being rated a lofty 92 compared to Penny’s 58.
That means she’d be running with a lot more weight than she’d be carrying in lesser company but Jim has his bang in-form apprentice Lauren Young on standby to take 7lbs off whatever weight she ends up being allocated and the trainer is convinced she has plenty of improvement still to come after being raised 7lbs in the ratings for her recent success.
Our other mare Sophiesticate, a year-older full-sister to Penelope’s Sister, has also been given an entry on Sunday in the £30,000 Apprentices’ Handicap over a mile and 3 furlongs at 6.45.
Sophiesticate was a real eye-catcher on her latest start at Ayr with Amie Waugh riding the mare to a staying-on length and a half 5th to Glasses Up and she has also been pleasing her trainer on the home gallops at Uplawmoor.
Our mare has actually been dropped a pound to a new mark of 60 which is 8lbs below her last winning mark at Musselburgh, so we’re very much hoping we have a well-handicapped horse going forward and Jim will decide later in the week whether either or both fillies will take their chances at Hamilton.

We can’t wait to hopefully share another exciting raceday with you!

Our Horses
SOPHIESTICATE and PENELOPE’S SISTER are full sisters who will be aged 6 and 5 going into the 2025 flat season and currently rated 66 and 51.
Both are by War Command out of the Galileo mare Lenoire and both have already shown that they’re capable of winning races with 4 successes between them already.

Sophiesticate
The soon to be 6 year-old won off marks of 63, 65 and 68 during the 2022 and 2023 seasons and recorded an RPR (Racing Post Rating) high of 76 so we’re confident that she can be trained to win more races off her current mark of 66.

Penelope’s Sister
She’s already a winner of a fillies’ handicap at Hamilton from a mark of 49 in June 2024 and she’s since finished a close-up second and third (beaten a total of three and a half lengths across both races) in her two follow-up attempts at the same track off her new mark of 51.
She looks very much open to further improvement having had more time to mature during her time off and we are more than just hopeful that she can progress further under Jim’s expert tutelage.
