AYR Racecourse is staging a Free Festive Raceday on Friday with a seven race card coming under starter’s orders at 11.55 am.
The extra meeting is designed to help northern racing after so many meetings have been abandoned in the region this winter was announced on Monday afternoon.
Ayr Racecourse Managing Director David Brown said : “We are delighted to be able to stage this additional fixture on Friday. Like other courses in the north we have lost fixtures this winter due to bad weather so we are happy to provide an extra meeting which will be free to all.”
Nick Dartnall, Race Planning Executive at the BHA, said : “We have lost a substantial amount of jump fixtures in the north in recent weeks and following requests from northern trainers and discussions with northern racecourses, felt that we should support the region if at all possible by providing an additional opportunity.
“Our thanks go to Ayr and the HBLB for their assistance in staging this fixture.”
The most valuable prize of the afternoon is the £10,000 Class 3 novices’ limited handicap chase over two miles four and a half furlongs and this Class 3 heat should be well supported. There is one more chase – a three mile handicap while the four hurdle races include a two mile Class 4. The afternoon concludes with a national hunt flat race.
Gates open at 11.00 am and there is no need to book you can just turn up on the day and gain free entry.
