TOP NOVICE CHASER SET FOR AYR

AYR stages its first Sunday fixture of 2019 on Sunday with a seven race card which has attracted some exciting entries.

Trainer Nicky Richards is set to run his novice chaser Reivers Lad in Join Racing TV Novice Chase at 2.00pm and this lightly raced eight year-old is using this race as a prep for the Arkle Novice Chase, a Grade 1 race, at the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown on February 2. Dan Skelton looks likely to run Destrier in this while another interesting runner is Sam’s Gunner from the Mick Easterby yard.

The opening maiden hurdle at 12.50pm could provide an excellent opportunity for another Nicky Richards horse - Glinger Flame. This grey gelding ran very green here on January 2 when beaten narrowly by the odds on Johnbb.

The Watch Racing TV Now Handicap Chase at 2.30pm over the marathon trip of 3m 2f could be tailor made for the Sandy Thomson trained Geronimo who was impressive in winning at Ayr at the end of November. The horse he touched off that day was the highly rated Beau Sancy and a repeat of that form should be good enough.

Gates open at 11.00am and the final race is the Watch Irish Racing On Racing TV Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.
