Stewards Cup hero Summerghand heads 207 entries for this year’s QTS Ayr Gold Cup to be run at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday September 19.
David O’Meara’s six year-old was fourth in the race last year and the horses that finished second and third Richard Fahey’s Growl and Summerghand’s stablemate Gulliver are also entered.
Kevin Ryan, who has won the famous race four times with Brando (2016), Captain Ramius (2012), Our Jonathan (2011) and Advanced (2007), has several entries including the Wokingham winner Hey Jonesy and Bielsa who runs in the colours of King Power Racing.
Michael Dods has Dakota Gold entered whose previous wins include the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon and the Listed Rous Stakes at Ascot.
Other notable entries include the William Haggas trained Mubtasimah, winner of the Maggie Dickson Fillies’ Stakes, Listed Race, at Newbury in June and Philip Makin’s Lahore who has won two Class 2 five furlong handicaps this season.
In addition to Sumnmerghand the horses who finished second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth in the Stewards Cup – Kimifive, Brian The Snail, Swindler, Chairmanoftheboard and Meraas hold entries.
The QTS Ayr Gold Cup will be one of four races from Ayr shown live on the main ITV Channel on September 19 with the others being the Silver Cup, the Jordan Electrics Doonside cup and Scotland’s only Group race the Scotty Brand Firth Of Clyde Stakes.
