There is some exciting racing at Ayr (Saturday) with the Scottish Sun Raceday featuring the Class 1 Listed Scottish Sun/British Stallion Studs EBF Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes.
This five furlong sprint is one of the most anticipated races of the year at the track and boasts some top winners down the years including Airwave (2004), Look Busy (2008), Margot Did (2011) and Marsha (2016).
Ten runners go to post in the Land O’Burns this afternoon and Les Eyre’s Sandra’s Secret is seeking a four timer having won twice at Ripon last month and at York seven days ago. The mount of David Allan this filly will be fancied to go close as will the Willie Jarvis trained Mrs Gallagher ridden by Josephine Gordon.
The main supporting race is the Sunsport Handicap for the Winton Cup, a Class 2 race over one mile five furlongs with £40,000 in prize-money. A field of 13 runners line up here with Brandon Castle, a winner at the track last July representing the Newmarket yard of Archie Watson, one of the more likely sorts and the mount of Jimmy Sullivan. Three times course winner Euchen Glen is another interesting runner.
Another Class 2 contest the Scottish Sun On Sunday Champion Handicap for the Johnstone Rose Bowl sees last year’s winner Nicholas T run for Jim Goldie and jockey Barry McHugh while Third Time Lucky represents the powerful Richard Fahey yard.
