Multiple Group Winner heads Doonside Cup Entries

A five time Group race winner heads the entries for Thursday’s £65,000 William Hill Doonside Cup, Listed Race, the feature race of Doonside Cup Day which launches the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival.

There is more than £750,000 in prize-money over the three days which culminates with the running of the £200,000 William Hill Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday.

Air Pilot, from the Ralph Beckett yard, is the highest rated horse among the 21 entries for the Doonisde Cup having won the Group 2 Prix d’Harcourt at Longchamp in April to add to his four Group 3 successes  - two each in Ireland and France.

Dubai Horizon who won a Class 3 at Ayr in July and followed with a Class 2 victory at Sandown early this month represents Godolphin who have won the race five times since 2004 and go for win  number six with this fast improving Saeed bin Suroor trained four year-old.

Sir Michael Stoute has entered the Hamdan Al Maktoum owned three year-old Gabr while Roger Charlton has two entries - Aspetar, who won a Listed race at Goodwood in May and Escalator who won last time out at Kempton.

Galston trainer Mike Smith aims high with his three year-old Glasses Up who has won three times at Ayr this season and will be aiming to give Mike the biggest win of his career.

There is a total of 255 entries across Thursday’s seven races with most of the top yards in the country holding entries. 

Entries for Friday’s card which includes two Listed races  the Shadwell Stud/EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes and the Al Maktoum Cup Arran Scottish Fillies Stakes, will be published today (Saturday).

The latest entry stage for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup is on Monday when entries will also be made for Scotland’s only Group race – the William Hill Firth of Clyde Fillies Stakes.
