The amazing run of form that trainer Mark Johnston has been enjoying continued at Ayr Racecourse last night when Fuwayrit won the novice auction stakes with Joe Fanning riding.
And the 8-11 favourite looks like a step in class awaits as he won this race easily and winning jockey Joe Fanning said : “He’s a nice horse and did that well on ground that was probably on the soft side”
Fuwayrit gave Johnston his fourth two year-old winner of the season at the track.
There was a major gamble on the Keith Dalgleish Three Castles in the Fabulous Magazine Handicap over 1m 2f from 14-1 to 5-1 and given a great ride from Andrew Breslin he came from last to first to win by a neck from Sarvi.
This was a major improvement on his two previous runs and it appeared Ayr’s big galloping track suited him better than Hamilton where he had raced the last twice.
Another Scottish trained winner was Iain Jardine’s Clearance in the concluding 1m 7f handicap and the trainer admitted he plotted the win after walking the track just before the race.
He said : “There was strip of fresh ground on the far side and I told my jockey Jamie Gormley to make for it and he did and won well. That was the horse’s first race for me since I bought him after he won a Stratford seller and I’m still feeling my way with him.”
It is advantage Brian Hughes after the Irish jockey rode a double at Ayr Racecourse yesterday to go one ahead of rival and current champion Richard Johnson at the top of the Jockeys’ Championship.Read More
