DOONSIDE Cup Day at Ayr Racecourse which launches the three day William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival takes place today (Thursday) with an eight race card.
Before racing at 11.00am there will be a live draw for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday which will decide which stalls the horses will run from.
Former Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes will make the draw in the Owners’ Club at the course and it will be screened live on Racing UK.
The racing action starts at 1.30pm with the EBF Novice Stakes and the feature race is the William Hill Doonside Cup, Listed race at 3.35pm where 11 runners line up including the Andrew Balding trained Morando who won the Ayrshire Handicap at this meeting in 2016.
Saeed bin Suroor, who has trained the winner of the race five times, saddles Dubai Horizon and Roger Varian runs the three year old Narella.
There are two more Listed races on Friday the Shadwell Stud/EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes and the first running of the Al Maktoum Cup Arran Scottish Fillies’ Sprint.
Saturday’s card in addition to the William Hill Ayr Gold and Silver Cups includes Scotland’s only Group race, the William Hill Firth of Clyde Stakes.
Four of Saturday’s races will be screened live by ITV Racing and over the three days there is more than £750,000 in prize-money.

THE 2018-2019 jumps season at Ayr Racecourse gets under way on Monday with a six race card. The action kicks off at 12.55pm with a two mile four furlong maiden hurdle which could see some southern based trainers sending young horses on the long trip north.READ MORE
