Trainer Michael Dods has ruled Dakota Gold out of the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup after the sprinter extended his winning sequence to four by winning the Listed Garrowby Stakes at York on Sunday.
The horse had been as short as 7-1 for the Ayr race but Dods said he would miss the £200,000 heritage handicap after his latest victory meant he would carry an 8lb penalty.
Dods said : “He won’t run in the Ayr Gold Cup as he has another penalty. There’s a Group 3 at Newbury on Ayr Gold Cup day and that’s a possibility.”
In Dakota Gold’s absence, unexposed three year-old Victory Day is likely to assume favouritism. The William Haggas trained sprinter has won two of his three starts this year and was an impressive winner at the Shergar Cup meeting last month.
William Hill’s latest odds for the race are 8 Victory Day, 14 Open Wide, Alkaraama, 16 Cold State, Danzeno, Lahore, Summerghand, 20 Admiralty, Arecibo, Baron Bolt, Buffer Zone, Donjuan Triumphant, Good Effort, Flaming Spear, Flavius Titus, Queens Gift.
Trainer Dan Skelton made it a hat trick of wins when Born Survivor won the £50,000 Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase at odds of 100-30 with Dan’s brother Harry Skelton riding.Read More
