The waiting is over, the big day has arrived its Day One of
Scotland's biggest flat racing festival and we are under starter's
orders for this extravaganza of quality racing featuring some of
the leading jockeys and trainers in the country.
Some of the biggest names in the sport will head to the west
coast of Scotland to enjoy exciting racing at its very best.
And we also have a celebrity in our midst today with television
football pundit Robbie Savage making the draw at 11.00 am for
the William Hill Ayr Gold on Saturday.
This afternoon's feature race is the William Hill Handicap for
the Kilkerran Cup with £25,000 in prize-money on offer and raced
over 1 mile 2 furlongs. This attracts quality middle distance
handicappers and was won last year by Hi There from the Richard
Other notable races today include the opener - the British
Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes over a mile for two year
olds won last year by the highly rated Bremner from the Kevin
Judges will also be mingling with the crowd throughout the
afternoon to pick best dressed ladies who will win a bronze coin
and a place in the final of our Ladies competition which takes
place tomorrow (Friday) on William
Hill Ayr Gold Cup Ladies Day.
Stay on after the last race to hear one of Ayr Racecourse's
favourite bands DAKOTA in the Horseshoe Bar. Playing their own
special brand of music featuring chart hits and all-time
favourites, DAKOTA will be on stage from 5.30 pm until
approximately 8.30 pm.
