THE 2018 BHA Fixture List has been published this week and Ayr Racecourse is set to stage 37 fixtures next year – the biggest number ever to be raced at the track and two more than scheduled for 2017 which had been the previous record.
There is a mix of 16 National Hunt meetings and 21 on the Flat with the busiest times being January and July when there are five fixtures in both these months.
Also included are four evening fixtures spread across May, June and August.
Ayr’s principal Festivals – the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival and the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival will be run from April 20-21 and September 20-22 respectively.
In welcoming the additional fixtures Ayr Racecourse Managing Director David Brown said : “As a Racecourse we have steadily built up the number of fixtures since 2003 when we raced 26 times to the 37 meetings planned for 2018.
“I feel we have a good mix of Flat and Jumps fixtures and with a few evening meetings scheduled too we have a diverse Fixture List for 2018 featuring our two Festivals in addition to our other flagship meetings and we remain the only racecourse in Scotland to stage a Group race in addition to several Listed races.”
The full 2018 fixtures are January – Tuesday January 2, Wednesday January 10, Monday January 15, Tuesday January 16, Wednesday January 31; February – Sunday February 11, Tuesday February 13, Monday February 26; March – Friday March 9, Saturday March 10; April - Friday April 20 & Saturday April 21 (Scottish Grand National Festival ).
The Flat season starts on Monday April 30 and is followed by May – Tuesday May 1 (evening) , Tuesday May 22, Wednesday May 23; June – Monday June 4 (evening), Monday June 18, Friday June 22 (evening), Saturday June 23 (Scottish Sun Raceday).
July - Sunday July 8, Monday July 9, Monday July 16, Monday 23, Monday July 30; August – Tuesday August 7 (evening), Saturday August 11 (QTS Ladies Night), Monday August 13; September – Thursday September 20, Friday September 21, Saturday September 22 (William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival); October – Tuesday October 2, Thursday October 11.
The 2018-2019 Jumps season starts on Monday October 29 and is followed by November 3, Wednesday November 14 and Thursday November 29.
