Fixture Overview

One of the real highlights of the year at Ayr and a fixture that has broken the record for attendances in each of the last two years.

High quality racing and glamour collide for a superb day out and we give out more coins to best dressed ladies who will win a place at the final of the competition at William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Ladies Day on Friday September 21.

With £170,000 in prize-money on offer there will be some real quality horses on show from leading stables throughout the UK.

The afternoon’s feature race is the £50,000 Class 1 Listed Scottish Sun/British Stallion Studs EBF Land O’Burns Fillies Stakes which down the years has produced some very fine winners including Look Busy (2008) and Margot Did (2011) and in 2016 Marsha who went on to win a Group 1 on Arc day at Chantilly.

And last year training maestro Henry Candy produced Spring Fling to win with Jimmy Sullivan riding.

The main supporting race is a Class 2  one mile five furlong handicap with £40,000 on offer which will see some highly rated middle distance horses competing while the one mile Scottish Sun On Sunday Champion Handicap for the Johnstone Rose Bowl is another Class 2.

Before and during racing The Rhythm Kings will be playing their blend of jazz music on the Champagne Lawns helping create a great atmosphere.

And after the final race at 5.25 pm the fun continues with one of Scotland’s top live bands BRIGHTSIDE playing within the Club Stand in the Horseshoe Bar. This band will play hit after hit and are sure to have the dance floor packed.

In the Ayrshire Suite within the Grandstand COLIN MCARDLE will be sure to keep the party in full flow playing a DJ set intertwined with his zany brand of humour. Colin also plays for three hours after the last race.
