Fixture Overview

A fantastic Saturday afternoon’s racing followed by an evening of music combine to make Scottish Sun Raceday one of the most popular fixtures of the year at Ayr.

Last year’s crowd of 7,500 was a record for the day and with high quality racing on course and a chance for ladies to qualify for the final of our fantastic Best Dressed Ladies competition held on William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Ladies Day on Friday September 22 another super Saturday awaits.

The highlight of the racing is the Scottish Sun/British Stallion Studs EBF Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes, a Listed Race over five furlongs.

Horses running in this £50,000 race have speed to burns and last year’s winner Marsha, trained by Sir Mark Prescott and Ridden by Paul Mulrennan has franked his credentials with subsequent wins in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Chantilly and the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.

The main supporting race on the afternoon is the Scottish Sun On Sunday Champion Handicap Stakes for the William Johnstone Trophy. This one mile Class 2 Handicap has a healthy £30,000 in prize-money.

Ladies and gents love to dress up for this day and for the fairer sex that can mean winning a coin and a place in our legendary William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Ladies Day in September when mega prizes can be won.

Judges will mingle throughout the course and decide who they feel are the best dressed and these lucky ladies will return in September !

And after the last race there will be terrific entertainment with a fantastic four piece band from Glasgow, the Upbeats playing in the Horseshoe Bar within the Club Stand. Singing hit after hit this is the band’s first appearance at Ayr Racecourse and we can’t wait.

The fantastic Upbeats...

Colin McArdle will play a full three hour dj set in the Ayrshire Suite in the Grandstand while during racing the Rhythm Kings will play some jazz sounds on the Champagne Lawns.
