CLOUDY TOPS MEMORABLE DAY FOR YOUNG MCCAIN

fEB MEETING

DONALD McCain Jnr, son of racing legend Donald 'Ginger' McCain was in sparkling form at Ayr on Saturday sending out three winners and a second from four runners.
And the star of the McCain show was undoubtedly Cloudy Lane, eight length winner of The Book Now For The Coral SGN Handicap Chase. The 11/10 fav gave a great display of jumping under the welter weight of 11 st 12lbs and has been cut to 10/1 joint ante post favourite for the Grand National at Aintree in April.
Given that Ginger McCain won the race three times with Red Rum and once with Amberleigh House there will be a lot of pressure on the younger McCain to land the race.
His other winners on Saturday were Harry Wood (100/30) in the Racing UK Novice Hurdle and Double Eagle (6/5 fav) in the Status Quo Live At Ayr Novice Chase. And just to add to his great day all four of Donald McCain Jnr's horses won the Best Turned Out Prize in their races.
Scottish trainers were in form too with Dumfriesshire based Lenny Lungo's Brandy Wine, the 14/1 winner of the Weddings At Western House Hotel Handicap Chase under Wilson Renwick. The 10 year-old was nine lengths clear of 5/2 fav Ballabriggs.
And Midlothian trainer Peter Monteith landed a hefty gamble at odds of 9/4 to win the Scullion Handicap Chase by three lengths from Villon (2/1 fav).
Prince Linamix (100/30 jt fav) made the trip from Ireland worthwhile in the opening Happy 21st Birthday Richard McManus Handicap Hurdle pulling three lengths clear of Sinitas (8/1). The well backed Overserved (11/4 fav) won The Blair & Bryden Solicitors And Estate Agents Handicap Hurdle in the hands of Richard McGrath.
Ayr next races on Thursday February 21 with the seven race card including three hurdle contests, two chases , a hunters chase and a national hunt flat race.
Advance bookings can be made online at www.ayr-racecourse.co.uk or by calling 0870-8505666. Discounts are available on bookings made seven or more days in advance.
