TOP CORAL NATIONAL CROWD FOR 30 YEARS
CORAL SCOTTISH GRAND NATIONAL ATTENDANCES HIT RECORD HIGH
OFFICIAL attendance figures for the
2008 Coral Scottish Grand National Festival at Ayr Racecourse were
the highest for more than 30 years. 
A crowd of 17,114 packed the course on Saturday April 19 with 5,720
in attendance the previous day making a combined figure of 22,834.
The Friday crowd showed a massive 43% rise on 2007 while
Saturday's was 8% up and the two day total almost 16% higher
than the previous year.
Ayr Racecourse General Manager William Gorol was naturally
delighted with the figures and said : "These attendances were
particularly pleasing as the 2007 crowds had also been the highest
for a number of years so to better these by so much is a tremendous
achievement.
"We landed lucky with the weather and our improved facilities
including our new Grandstand Sports Bar were a big hit with
racegoers. We are now looking forward to our flat season which
starts on Wednesday May 21."
