SCOTTISH TRAINERS IN TOP FORM

Something SilverTARTAN FIVE LAND THE SPOILS AT AYR

TARTAN power ruled at Ayr Racecourse last Thursday with no fewer than five Scottish trained horses winning from seven races.
And perhaps the best was saved to the last race when The Bajan Bandit, now aged 13, ran in a Hunters' Chase for the first time and landed an impressive eighth course win in the hands of Mr Tom Greenall in the TartanTurftours.co.uk Hunters' Chase by a whopping 16 lengths from Lord Of Illusion.
Trained by Lenny Lungo at Carrutherstown, near Dumfries,The Bajan Bandit was just too good in this company and landed the offs at 7/4 fav.
Uplawmoor based Jim Goldie is having a good jumps season and sent out another winner in Something Silver (3/1 fav) (pictured above) given a fine ride by Richard McGrath to hold off Native Coll (9/2) by half a length in the Weatherbys Bank Novices' Handicap Chase.
It had been 11 months since Perth trainer Jean McGregor had lasts ent out a winner but Dalawan (22/1), ridden by Kevin Tobin, obliged in the Racing post "Hands And Heels" Jump Series Handicap Hurdle by a comfortable two and a half lengths from Millie The Filly (14/1).
Geoff Brown is best known for his role as Chairman of St Johnstone Football Club but he is also a successful racehorse owner and he was on hand to see Silver By Nature, trained by Lucy Normile near Perth, and ridden by Tom Dreaper win the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Novices Hurdle at 11/8 favourite.
Only two horses completed the course in the Join The ROA At racehorseowners.net Handicap Chase and Almire Du Lia (13/2), trained by Sue Bradburne in Fife and ridden by son Mark prevailed by a length and three quarters from Benbeoch (7/1).
Irish trainer Liam Lennon sent Mr Multifix (15/2) on the long journey from Newry, Co. Down, but the journey paid off when JP O'Farrell booted the horse home by two and a half lengths to win the ROA Scotland Supports Scottish Racing Maiden Hurdle.
Most impressive winner of the day was Charity Lane (15/2), trained by George Moore and ridden by Mathew Dickinson, who bolted home by 31 lengths from Room At The Top (14/1).
Ayr next races on Friday March 7 and Saturday March 8. Advance bookings can be made online at www.ayr-racecourse.co.uk or by calling 0870-8505666. Discounts are available on bookings made seven or more days in advance.
