Saints and Sinners Ayr Bound
Wednesday July 18, 2007
TH'AYR OFF TO SAINTS AND SINNERS AT AYR
AYR Racecourse is to be the new home of The Saints and Sinners charity race meeting after the organisers approached Ayr earlier in the year to tender for the night.
After long deliberation the Saints
and Sinners decided to end their 42 year association with Hamilton
Park and the first Saints and Sinners Night to be held at Ayr will
be on June 20, 2008 and will form part of the established June
Festival at the track with racing also taking place the following
afternoon.
The move further underlines
Ayr's position as one of the leading courses in Britain and
patrons attending the first Saints and Sinners Night there will
enjoy fabulous new facilities.
The Ayr Executive are investing
£3 million in new Grandstand bar facilities which will be open
in time for the Coral Scottish Grand National in April next year.
As part of the development a new members/owners and trainers bar
will be created and a new Club bar will be situated beside the
Weighing Room.
All of this will add to the comfort
of attending racing at Ayr which can hold up to 20,000 racegoers
and the course will be more than capable of welcoming the large
numbers who will attend Saints and Sinners next year and the
growing audience the event will attract over the years to come.
Already this year a new
£250,000 Parade Ring and Winners Enclosure has been built and
Champagne Gardens housing open air bars on a manicured lawn have
been created.
Ayr Racecourse Chairman Alan
Macdonald said : "We are delighted to welcome Saints and
Sinners to Ayr Racecourse and I am certain it will be a bigger
showpiece than ever before because of this move.
"The main objective is to raise
as much money as possible for the charities that Saints and Sinners
support.
"We are already home to the two
main Scottish racing events of the year the Coral Scottish Grand
National and totesport Ayr Gold Cup and we look forward to working
with all those involved with Saints and Sinners to develop and grow
the fixture into one of the top social events in the calendar.
"Our facilities are constantly
being improved and we will soon boast bars, restaurants and viewing
areas among the best in Britain."
Philip Martin, Racing Convenor for
Saints and Sinners said : "The committee's decision was
entirely based around maximising resources for the charities we
support each year. Ayr provided a compelling proposition to grow
the event and achieve this."
Saints and
Sinners supports hundreds of charities each year and last year they
raised £100,000.
