JAMIE SPENCER TAKES HIGH ROAD NORTH
Thursday November 1, 2007
TITLE chasing
jockey Jamie Spencer will take the high road to Scotland on
Saturday when he has six booked mounts at Ayr as he tries to clinch
the Jockeys Championship.
Arch rival Seb Sanders rides at both Newmarket and at Kempton's evening meeting but Spencer heads from his south of England base on an early morning flight and will be at Ayr in time to ride Roman Legion for trainer Paul Blockley in the first race at 12.55 pm.
Last week Spencer rode two winners at the Scottish track and he'll be hoping to do even better on Saturday when John Smith's sponsor the entire seven race card on Ayr's last flat meeting of the season.
Spencer's mount in the feature race on the card, the John Smith's Extra Smooth Handicap is Montrachet for trainer Michael Bell and he also has an eye catching ride in the John Smith's Nursery Handicap on Tobar Suil Lady for Kevin Ryan.
Ayr Racecourse PR Iain Ferguson said : "Its great news for us that Jamie is coming north on Saturday. He was in great form here last week and I'm sure his presence will be a huge boost for the racegoers.
"This is the first time we have staged a flat meeting in November and we are delighted John Smith's are sponsoring."
Clerk of the Course Katherine Self reports that the going is currently heavy and the forecast for Saturday is dry and bright. Bars and restaurants open at 10.55 am.
