FLAT SEASON UNDER WAY AT AYR
GREG AT THE DOUBLE AS AYR FLAT SEASON STARTS
THE 2008 flat season got under way
at Ayr Racecourse last Thursday with high temperatures and strong
sunshine greeting racegoers.
And champion apprentice jockey Greg Failey made it a great start to
the season with a double on Shaweel (1/2 fav) in the European
Breeders Fund Maiden Stakes for guv'nor MaRk Johnston and
Malguru (10/1) for George Foster in the Neilson Binnie-Mckenzie
Handicap.
It was also a double on the card for jockey Phillip Makin and
trainer Michael Dods. Osteopathic Remedy (6/4 fav) landed the Burns
Mall Kilmarnock Handicap and Rubirosa (11/4) came home first in
the Western House Hotel For Weddings Handicap.
The feature race of the day, the Macdonald Solicitors Handicap saw
1/3 shot Alleviate in the hands of champion jockey Seb Sanders hold
off Plane Pai`nter (11/4).
Other winners were Russet Reward (4/1) for Tom Eaves and trainer
Linda Stubbs in the Dawn Developments Maiden Auction Stakes and
Speedy Senorita (9/4 fav) in the Giles Glasgow Fair Meeting
Handicap.
Ayr next races on Friday June 20 for Saints and Sinners Racenight.
