FESTIVAL RADIO A FIRST FOR AYR RACECOURSE
THE totesport Ayr Gold Cup Festival, Scotland's richest flat race meeting, held later this month will have its own dedicated radio station.
Totesport will sponsor Festival Radio, the first time ever a race meeting in Scotland has had its own radio station broadcasting live from the course.
To celebrate the launch of totesport Festival Radio racegoers who buy a Festival Radio, costing £2, will get their money back straight away with a £2 voucher to spend against any bet of £5 or more with totepool or totesport at Ayr Raceourse on the day.
Racegoers will be able to tune into the radio station up to 10 miles from the ground on 87.7 FM, to listen to all pre and post-race information and then buy souvenir radios from the Tote girls when they arrive at the course. The radio is also scan-able so can be used after the event or just kept as a souvenir.
Ayr Racecourse General Manager William Gorol said he was excited about his course being chosen as the first in Scotland to have its own dedicated radio station.
He said : "Festival Radio is a tremendous idea and I am sure it will provide a terrific service to all our racegoers. There will be up to the minute betting shows, interviews and tips from the Tote's PR man Damian Walker.
"Jockeys, owners and trainers will also be interviewed and I am sure this service will add greatly to everyone's enjoyment of their time with us at the totesport Ayr Gold Cup Festival."
Damian Walker said: "This is a tremendous innovation from Ayr racecourse and we're delighted to be involved with this exciting project.
"We've seen at the Cheltenham Festival how a dedicated radio service can really enhance the whole raceday experience for the public and I'm sure the same will be true at Ayr."
Pip Watkins, Commercial Director for Sports Event Radio, the radio providers, said :
"We are delighted to be providing the radio for the Festival race meeting. We believe the racegoing experience is enhanced by having the absolute latest news, reviews and interviews from the people who are in the know.
"This is the first time racing in Scotland has had a dedicated radio station and we hope it will be embraced and used by all attending the event."
The Festival runs from Thursday September 20 through until Saturday September 22 and for the first time ever prize money will hit the £500,000 mark with the highlight of the three day meeting, the totesport Ayr Gold Cup carrying £121,000 of a prize fund.
