VALENTINE RACEDAY AT AYR
AYR Racecourse hosts its annual Valentine's Day meeting today (Saturday) with seven races on the card.
The highlight of the day's racing should be the £16,500 Book Now For The Coral SGN Handicap Chase over three miles one furlong at 2.55pm and although there are only five runners there is quality in Cloudy Lane from the Donald McCain Jnr yard and Lucinda Russell's Kerry Lads and Richard Guest's Our Armageddon are also worth a look.
Biggest field of the day sees 12 runners go to post in the Racing UK Novices Hurdle at 2.20 pm and Lucinda Russell's recent course winner Quws Law runs here in the hands of Peter Buchanan while Howard Johnson saddles two - Companero (Tony Dobbin) and Emmenso (Wilson Renwick).
Football legend Alan Shearer's Akilak runs in the Status Quo Live At Ayr Novice Chase at 4.05 pm. Again there are five runners with Jim Goldie's Endless Power likely to be hard to beat.
The going is heavy and Clerk of the Course Katherine Self said : "We have strong winds forecast which should dry the course a bit and temperatures will remain mild.
