DOUBLE UP FOR LUCINDA
Friday March 28, 2008
SCOTS-IRISH ENJOY FIVESOME REEL AT AYR
THE Scots and Irish enjoyed a great
day at Ayr Racecourse last Thursday with three home trained horses
winning along with two from over the water.
Lucinda Russell, who trains at Arlary near Perth,
saddled a double courtesy of Ballynure, ridden by Campbell Gillies
in the opening RBS Saints And Sinners Racenight Handicap Chase and
Jefertiti, the mount of Peter Buchanan, in the Dawn Homes Handicap.
The latter was landing a quick fire course double having won
earlier in the month and at 8/1 was great value for his half length
win over Jim Goldie's Something Silver (3/1). Ballynure (12/1)
won by a resounding 24 lengths from Cash Bonanza (7/1).
The third Scottish trained winner was Oleolat (12/1) ridden by
Czech Jan Faltejsek and trained in the Borders by Willie Amos. The
gelding raced eight lengths clear of Soul Angel (17/2) to land the
Book Now For Coral SGN Handicap Hurdle.
Irish trainer Liam Lennon has been a regular visitor to Ayr this
winter and Mr Multifix (13/8 fav) ridden by James O'Farrell won
The Dawn Developments Beginners Chase after long time leader
Lockstockandbarrel fell at the last. This left the favourite to
saunter home 62 lengths clear of the only other finisher Nashra
(11/1).
Another Irish raider Big Boots trained by Mark McNiff in Sligo and
ridden by his 17 year-old brother Luke, bounded clear at odds of
6/1 in the racinguk.tv Standard National Hunt Flat Race to win by
53 lengths from Prosecco (12/1).
Other winners were Companero (2/7 fav), trained by Howard Johnson
and ridden by Denis O'Regan, in the Mary Anderson 'National
Hunt' Novices Hurdle and Currahee (14/1), ridden by Michael
McAlister and trained by Maurice Barnes, in the Saw Doctors at Ayr
18th April Novices Hurdle.
Ayr next races on Friday April18 and Saturday April 19 - the Coral
Scottish Grand National Festival. Advance tickets are on sale by
calling 0870-8505666 or by going online at www.ayr-racecourse.co.uk with special discounts available.
