DONNA DRIVES OFF IN AUDI WITH UTMOST RESPECT
DONNA Scott was the happiest girl at Ayr Racecourse on Friday after a horse called Utmost Respect won the totesport.com Ayr Silver Cup.
For Donna, of Boyd Street, Prestwick, had drawn the horse in the Ladies Day Final and won a £20,000 Audi A3 1.6 sports car courtesy of the Ingram Motoring Group.
South Ayrshire Provost Winifred Sloan was on hand to hand Donna the keys to the car and she was also congratulated by Alex Ingram of the Ingram Motoring Group and Rob English representing Volkswagen.
A tearful Donna said: "When I drew Utmost Respect from the hat everyone was saying I had a great chance because it was the favourite but I know enough about horse racing to know favourites don't always win.
"I couldn't believe it when the horse drew clear. It's a lovely car and I can't wait to drive it away."
Kathryn Craig of Springside, who had the second horse Northern Dare won a perfect diamond worth £2,500 courtesy of Oghams of Ayr and Edinburgh and Ayr girl Claire Paterson won third prize of a luxury trip for two to Dubai for three nights courtesy of Stewart Travel and Emirates Airlines.
Louise Howe of Ayr won a membership for two at Prestwick tennis Club for fourth place and Liana Campbell, also of Ayr, was fifth winning a membership to Curves Gym.
There were 28 finalists and they all were taken to the paddock where they drew a number corresponding to the number of a runner in the Silver Cup.
Ayr Racecourse Marketing Director Lindsey Smith said : "It was another very special day and I'd like to thank everyone especially the sponsors for making Ayr Ladies Day Final the best in the land."
Almost 23,000 attended the three days of the totesport Ayr Gold Cup Festival held from Thursday through to Saturday and it was thirsty work for some.
The catering team dispensed 15,000 cups of tea and coffee, a tanker's worth of Coca Cola, 52,000 pints of beer, 700 sides of hot smoked salmon, 4,000 bottles of champagne, a ton and a half of ice, 4,000 chickens and 8000 bottles of wine.
Crowds on Friday stayed on to see X Factor finalists the MacDonald Brothers and Ben Mills perform in the paddock.
