BIG CROWDS EXPECTED FOR JUNE DOUBLE HEADER
TWO DAY JUNE MEETING AT AYR
AYR Racecourse's two day June
meeting features some great racing with a total of £145,000 in
prizemoney up for grabs over the two days and a combined attendance
of more than 15,000 expected.
It kicks off with the Saints and Sinners Racenight on Friday June
20 followed by the Scottish Sun Raceday on Saturday June 21 and
there are seven races on each day.
Saints and Sinners will be a historical night at Ayr as the meeting
moves from Hamilton where it has been held for 42 years. First race
on the night is at 6.10 pm - The Saints and Sinners Apprentice
Handicap over one mile five furlongs and the action continues until
9.20 pm when the Racinguk.tv Handicap Stakes over one mile two
furlongs is run.
Feature race on the Friday is the £10,000 Dawn Construction
Handicap at 8.50 pm. Run over seven furlongs this carries a first
prize of almost £6500 and should feature some decent
handicappers.
Another competitive race will be the Walter Scott Saints and
Sinners Challenge Cup Handicap for three year olds over the
straight six furlongs and this is due off at 8.20 pm.
The Scottish Sun Raceday was one of the fastest growing fixtures at
Ayr last year with more than 6,100 attending.
The first two races on the card are both shown live on Channel 4.
The opener at 2.25 pm, the Scottish Sun Handicap over a mile
carries a prize fund of £25,000 with more than £15,500
going to the winner.
Next up at 2.55 pm is the £30,000 Scottish News of the World
EBF Land O' Burns Fillies Stakes, a Listed Race over five
furlongs. Both these races will attract some top horses from
stables in the south as well as a strong contingent from the
leading northern stables.
The Scottish Sun Miss Scotland Handicap at 3.25 pm over one mile
five furlongs carries £17,000 in prizemoney and should see a
big field go to post.
The final race on the card is the Dawn Construction Handicap at
5.45 pm over one mile two furlongs.
There is some top quality after racing entertainment on both days
with Bjorn Again, playing the hits of Abba on Saints and Sinners
Night in the Grandstand Bar while Frankies Monster Mash Show will
be performing in the Horseshoe Bar. And on Saturday top Queen
tribute band Kings Of Queen appear on stage in the Grandstand Bar.
