KEVIN LANDS AYR FEATURE ON FULLANDBY
A healthy
crowd enjoyed some great racing at Ayr on Monday highlighted by a
win for Fullandby in the feature event - the Giles Insurance
40th Anniversary Heritage Handicap.
Ridden by Kevin Darley for trainer Tim
Etherington, the five year old gelding was sent off 5/1 second
favourite and travelled well to lead inside the final furlong and
win by. three quarters of a length with Gallery Girl (20/1) back in
second place.
One of the biggest cheers of the day was reserved for Merchant Of Dubai (11/4 fav) winner of the opening race, the EBF Join WBX.Com Maiden Stakes. Ridden by champion jockey Jamie Spencer the horse is owned by a 19 strong syndicate Highland Racing and several of the owners are from Ayrshire. Merchant of Dubai responded to a power packed Spencer ride to win by a neck from Atabaas Pride (3/1).
Spencer also rode River Thames to win the
Giles Insurance Corporate Handicap at odds of 6/1 and another
leading rider Seb Sanders won the Giles Insurance Premier Handicap
on Artless (13/8 fav).
Jockey PJ McDonald earned plaudits back in April for his ride on Hot Weld, winner of the Coral Scottish Grand National. On Monday he steered Nota Liberata (9/1) home for trainer George Moore in the Join WBX. Com Handicap to record his seventh flat win of the season.
Other winners were Equuleus Pictor (12/1) for
trainer John Spearing and jockey Franny Norton in the Giles
Insurance Handicap over six furlongs and Northern Dare (11/4 fav)
for Dandy Nicholls and Silvestre De Sousa in the Betrescue
antepostmag.com Handicap.
Ayr races again next Monday with the first race at 2.30 pm and pensioners will be allowed free entry.
