HORSE FEST TO CELEBRATE RACECOURSE CENTENARY
CROWDS attending the first day of the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival at Ayr Racecourse last week had to do a double take as more than 50 full size fibreglass horses went on parade outside the course.
Ayr Racecourse is celebrating its centenary on its current site this year and have launched Scotland's first ever 'Horse Fest' with 100 fibreglass horses situated at locations all over Ayrshire.
All three councils - South Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire have agreed to allow the full size horses to be displayed at approved sites throughout the county yesterday Racecourse official Jocelyn Coltart unveiled the first highly decorated horses.
The Horse Fest is the brainchild of Racecourse Chairman Alan Macdonald and is based on last year's successful Cow Fest in Edinburgh. Businesses have bought a horse and designed them to their specifications.
After Saturday's Scottish Grand National the beasts headed to their new 'homes' throughout Ayrshire.
The 20 best "turned out" will be judged and these horses then auctioned off for charity during the week of the totesport Ayr Gold Cup in September.
Alan Macdonald said : "This is a unique opportunity to sponsor a horse to celebrate the Centenary of Ayr Racecourse and at the same time raise the profile of Ayrshire throughout Scotland.
