The draw for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup will be held at
Ayr Racecourse today (Thursday) with many of the top trainers
present to chose the stall from which their horse will run.
The draw will be shown live on Racing UK and will be conducted
by racing pundit Tom O'Ryan and Mark Kershaw, former Racecourse
Manager at both Ayr and Newbury.
Trainers who will be present include David Nicholls who has
saddled 6 of the last 11 winners of the race, Richard Fahey, Kevin
Ryan and Jim Goldie whose Hawkeyethenoo carries Scotland's
hopes.
A Scottish trained horse has not been successful since Roman
Warrior in 1975 and sponsors William Hill rate the Goldie runner as
a 14/1 shot. Gary Bartley is due to take the mount while the 11/1
favourite Mac's Power will be ridden by Eddie Ahern.
Ayrshire born jockeys Danny Tudhope and Lee Newman have a great
chance of riding the winner on Pepper Lane (12/1) and Colonel Mak
(14/1) respectively.
