A veteran handicapper and a rising equine star stole the show at
Ayr Racecourse on Tuesday when the track held its second September
meeting of the year.
Beckermet may be nine years of age which in human terms would be
bus pass territory but still loves to race and given a confident
ride by PJ McDonald came home by three quarters of a length in
front of Ingleby Arch to land the Kenny Lucas 30yrs at Racecourse
at odds of 6/1. Trainer Ruth Carr said afterwards she was delighted
with the run.
Dare To Dance had been ante post favourite for the
Cambridgeshire at Newmarket but fast ground there meant he was
rerouted to Ayr to racer on a softer surface and it paid dividends
when champion jockey Paul Hanagan produced the three year old to go
clear of Mirrored and win the Daily Record Handicap by three
lengths. A step up in class beckons now for the Jeremy Noseda
charge which was sent off at 8/15 favourite.
Linda Perratt saddled Benny The Bear, a 5/1 chance, to win the
Best Odds Guaranteed At victorchandler.com Handicap under Phillip
Makin and jockey Tom Eaves rode the first two winners of the
afternoon on Red Tyke (14/1) in the Bet Live At victorchandler.com
Nursery and Mistress of Rome (4/7 fav) in the victorchandler.com
Maiden Auction Stakes.
The meeting concluded with the Betfair Racing Excellence
Apprentice Training Series which went the way of Emeralds Spirit
(4/1) given a good ride by young Justin Newman, one of the rising
stars of the jockey ranks.
