Hanagan and De Sousa go head to head at Ayr

06 October 2011

Ayr Racecourse stages the only afternoon flat meeting in the UK today with the Giles Insurance Raceday featuring eight races.

And champion jockey Paul Hanagan has seven mounts as he tries to fend off the challenge of rivals Kieren Fallon and Silvestre de Sousa for this year's title. Silvestre is also in action at Ayr with six booked rides which should add to the afternoon's excitement.

Two races for juveniles start the proceedings - the Seric Systems Sweepstakes British Stallion Studs E.B.F. Maiden over a mile due off at 2.10pm followed half an hour later by The Bud & Joe Pieroni Memorial Nursery Handicap over six furlongs.

The afternoon comes to a close with the Giles Insurance Corporate Handicap over seven furlongs. This is Ayr's penultimate flat meeting of the season with the finale - John Smith's Raceday taking place on October 29.
