A record crowd of 7000 enjoyed a tremendous mix of racing and
entertainment at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday night at the annual
Champagne GH Mumm Ladies Night.
A steady stream of people arrived at the course from late
afternoon and by the time of the first race the previous record
ladies night attendance of 6600 was well on the way to be being
broken.
Ladies looked resplendent in colourful dresses and glammy hats
and fascinators as they tried to impress the judges.
And a total of six ladies won a bronze coin and a place in the
final of William Hill Ladies Day on Friday September 16 when one
lucky lady will drive off in the star prize - a Vauxhall Corsa
Limited Edition from Kerr & Smith. Second prize is a fabulous
holiday in Dubai courtesy of Stewart Travel and there is a piece of
jewellery from Alex Cairncross for third place.
All of the coin winners also won a goodie bag courtesy of KZ
Hair and there was also a prize for the Best Dressed Man courtesy
of Slaters Menswear Ayr Branch.
After the racing ended the entertainment began with The
Overtones taking to the stage beside the Paddock and performing an
hour long set comprising tracks from their platinum selling album
'Good Ol' Fashioned Love'.
The crowd who braved the elements were treated to a fantastic
performance from the boys who were overwhelmed by the reaction from
their fans.
Lachie Chapman of The Overtones said : "We were overwhelmed by
the reception - from the very start of our set until the end it was
superb. We just loved it.".
And Ayr Racecourse Sales and Marketing supremo Lindsey Smith
added :"What a great night! The attendance was the icing on the
cake and we were treated to a stunning show by The Overtones and
also Sistrum upstairs and DJ Derek Ross in the Ayrshire Suite.
"To attract 7000 people on a bad night weather wise was
wonderful."
